Ten Air Adventure Ideas

Article by Eddie Prentice

Outdoor activities are great for mind and body. For the adventurous and those who just enjoy the great outdoors, the challenge is often finding the next thing to do.

Presented here are ten air related activities. Some of them are not for the faint hearted and some are not recommended.

1. Base Jumping

Base jumping is a relatively recent phenomenon. It embraces jumping with a packed parachute from fixed structures such as tall buildings, bridges and cliffs. It is highly dangerous and people have died doing it. Genuinely not recommended.

2. Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping started in New Zealand and has now spread around the globe. It involves jumping from height attached to an elasticised line. Jumps usually take place from a fixed structure but have also been done from helicopters or hot air balloons. A fun experience but not without risk so check out company reputation before signing up.

3. Hang Gliding

A hang glider is an unmotorised aircraft where the pilot is strapped on to an aluminium frame by a secure harness. Hang gliders are lunched by foot, usually by jumping of a hillside. When the sport first started flights were usually short in duration but today they can extend for hours. Not to be undertaken without proper training.

4. Helicopter Flight

A helicopter flight is a totally different experience to a fixed wing aircraft. The greater manoeuvrability can be a fund experience for first timers. Most people opt for a helicopter flight as a site seeing experience, for example a tour over the Manhattan skyline or the Grand Canyon. It can also be a faster (albeit more expensive) means of commuting short distances.

5. Hot Air Ballooning

Hot air ballooning is a remarkably peaceful means of air transport. Flights ascend to around 2000 feet and journey destination depends on the direction of the wind. Subject to getting in and out of the basket ballooning is accessibility to all ages and levels of fitness. A great way to see beautiful scenery.

6. Gliding

A fixed wing aircraft with no engine can be a wonderful experience. Flights can last for hours and reach altitudes of 30,000. It is a very accessible pastime – it’s not expensive and pilots can fly solo as young as 16 years of age.

7. Microlight

A microlight is a small (maximum 2 seats) motorised aeroplane which can fly at slow speeds. Flying a microlight is not subject to the same regulation as other aircraft and for some people may be an affordable introduction in to the world of flying.

8. Parachute Jump

There are basically two ways most people take a parachute jump. One is on a static line which means jumping out of the aircraft solo and the canopy opens automatically after a few seconds. The other is tandem jumping where the novice is joined by a harness to an experienced practitioner. The advantage of the latter is that preparation for a first jump can take just 30 minutes.

9. Paragliding

Paragliding is very similar to hand gliding. The main difference between the two is the configuration of the wings. A hang glider has V-shaped wings whereas a paraglider has a more oval shape.

10. Skydiving

Skydiving is a more advanced form of parachuting. It involves jumping from higher altitudes and involves freefall before the canopy opens. Most people experience skydiving in tandem with an experienced jumper.

All these activities carry an element of risk. Choosing a reputable operator is essential.

City Break To Miami

Article by Miami Tours, holidays to Miami, Miami City Break

The amount of Britons booking holidays to Florida took a nose dive just after the turn of the new century, as USA immigration officials made entry to the USA a difficult and time-consuming experience to any non-residents in the wake of the appalling September 11th terrorist attacks.

Indeed, this warm climate makes it the ideal place to relax by the sea. With 15-miles of white-sand beaches, Miami is a sun-worshipper’s paradise. The area of ‘Miami Beach’, although technically a separate city to Miami itself, has been one of the USA’s most famous beach resorts for over 100 years, and is also home to South Beach, a glamorous and historical art-deco district that is world-renowned for its nightclubs, beaches and shopping.

Travelers visiting Miami may actually spend their time in Miami Beach, a separate municipality situated 4 miles (6 km) across Biscayne Bay from downtown Miami. The combined greater Miami area includes several ethnic neighborhoods such as Little Havana and Little Haiti.

If you are taking your family to Miami, the kids will find entertainment at the Miami Children’s Museum and the Miami Seaquarium. The Miami Children’s Museum has interactive exhibits to provide entertainment and educate. All ages will enjoy a visit to the Miami Seaquarium, where visitors can swim with the dolphins and view a selection of marine wildlife. So when you plan your trip to Miami, remember that the kids would also love it, as it is a great holiday destination that caters for the old and young.

Miami visitors are offered a range of hotels, resorts and vacation rentals to satisfy all tastes and budgets. Ranging from the fanciful restored boutique hotels of the Art Deco district, the modern high rises of glass and steel, beach front condominiums and villas, serviced suites, budget hostels, inns and guesthouses, there’s accommodation and prices to suit everyone.

The popular Miami Metrozoo, occupying over 290 acres (130 ha), transports visitors on a mono-rail. One of the feature of this zoo, located about 45 minutes from central Miami, is the absence of animal enclosures. The animals are contained by carefully designed moats. The petting zoo and play area makes this a popular attraction for younger children.

Pay a Visit to the Miami Seaquarium

Article by Adam Singleton

Miami has so much for you to see and do it can be difficult to find a place to begin. But regardless of whether you are visiting with the family or just on your own, you should definitely make time to see the Miami Seaquarium.

This is a huge venue that takes up nearly forty acres of land and it is very easy to reach from downtown Miami. The best thing about it is that it provides an educational visit as well as one that everyone really enjoys. You’ll certainly leave knowing a lot more about marine mammals and fish than you did when you arrived.

There are various shows which form a part of the entertainment you can look forward to on the day. For example you can watch a killer whale take part in a special show that gives you an idea of the sheer size and skills it has. And of course no visit would be complete without seeing the dolphins showing off their incredible intelligence. You may not know that the dolphin pool was used in the filming of the famous television show, “Flipper”, as well.

Make sure you grab a map as you enter the Miami Seaquarium, as this will show you where all the exhibits and shows are. You can then plan a route round the venue that takes in all the show times as well as the rest of the exhibits.

There is a sea lion show there too, which always draws the crowds as it tends to be quite amusing to watch. Salty the sea lion definitely likes playing to a crowd, so make sure you go along to see the display.

The Seaquarium is really a half day out experience, and when you need to stop for a break you will find plenty of places to do just that. There are eating places and seating areas provided along the way, so you can enjoy seeing everything and taking time out for a bite to eat as well. The park is nicely spread out and no matter which route you take you will see everything you need to see without missing anything out.

As well as the more traditional sea lions and dolphins, you can also come up close to crocodiles and alligators while you are in the park. It’s all quite safe of course, but it will probably still send shivers up your spine!

If you want to stay in downtown Miami you will find lots of Miami hotels that you can book a room in. This is an ideal position from which to enjoy everything that Miami has to offer, including the Miami Seaquarium and all the creatures it holds within.

Can A Signature Loan Be Your Ticket To Your Financial Goals?

Sometimes you know that you need to get something you either want or need, but you do not have the money at that moment. You know that you do not have anything to offer for collateral, so that rules out a secured loan. You do still have a chance, though, to get the money you need. A signature loan, which requires no collateral, can still be obtained, and you can get your answer quickly.

Signature loans are sometimes tailored to specific purposes. This means that you can get a specific type for education, another kind for business, or business start-ups, one for debt consolidation, a boat, a PC, etc. To help you consolidate, one company will even give you $100 if you trade in your old credit cards. Even if you do not have a specific purpose in mind, or if you want cash for several things, you can still get them for general purposes, too.

The easiest kind to get is called the payday loans. This type of loan will typically allow you to get up to $1,000, and sometimes more. Although easy to get, they must be paid back within two weeks (usually), and have a high interest rate. The interest will cost you about $30 for every one hundred dollars that you borrow (30%). If you need the money overnight – that may be the best way to go.

Other types, though, will give you better rates and larger amounts. Getting the money you need does not have to be obtained at such high rates as a payday loan. Other signature loans will come up to a much higher value, up to around $75,000, depending on your income and ability to pay. This larger loan will often give you up to five years to pay it back. In many cases it will be paid monthly straight out of your checking account.

When you go to find just the right signature loan for yourself, be sure to look and see if it has a clause about a prepayment penalty. There should not be any – at least you don’t want way. This actually penalizes you if you pay it off early. You want to be able to get savings by being diligent; not having this option will save you more by paying it off before the final payment is due. Another option to look for is the length of time for repayment. Both the amounts that you can get and the time frame involved vary quite a bit from one company to another.

Compare different loan possibilities carefully in order to ensure that you are getting a really good deal. Be sure to look at the overall cost, and not just the interest rate. If you are not familiar with the company, check it out online and see if there are any reported problems with it. This way your signature loan will not only help you meet your financial goals, but it will also let you sleep peaceably.

Get St Patrick’s Day off to a Green and Groovy Start

Article by Susie Davids

Pots of gold. Four leaf clovers. Lots of Guinness. Little leprechauns. Green clothes. Joyous shindigs with friends and family… St Patrick’s Day or Paddys Day is one of the greatest Irish festivals, which commemorates the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, who was believed to have brought Christianity to the Irish. It’s also supposed he drove the snakes from the country.

St Patrick’s Day is also marked with a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, and across many parts of the world. But it’s also a holiday, imbued with magic, fantasy and the belief that with a little luck, anything is possible.

As we know it, this merry day involves a great deal of alcohol. But where did this custom come from? As one old Irish legend would have it, St Patrick was served a measure of whisky that was by far less than full. So St Patrick took this chance to teach the stingy innkeeper a lesson. He warned the innkeeper that a monstrous devil lurked in his cellar, who fed on the dishonesty of the innkeeper. But in order to drive out the devil, he must amend his ways.

When St Patrick revisited the inn some time later, he found the owner generously filling the patrons’ glasses to the brim. He returned to the cellar with the innkeeper, to find the devil thin and withered from the landlord’s generosity, and promptly cast out the demon, announcing that from then on, everyone should have a drop of the ‘hard stuff’ on his feast day.

Most of you have probably heard of, or tried out ‘Pota Phadraig’ or ‘Patrick’s Pot’ whereby the leaf of the shamrock plant is placed in the whisky before downing the shot. Saint Patrick told the people that the shamrock was like the idea of the Trinity – that in the one God, there are three divine beings: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

St Patrick Day falls on March 17th 2011, and those observing this occasion will have more luck keeping their Pot of Gold by shopping online for reasonably priced gifts that the whole family can enjoy! Top o’ the morning to ye!

Spread the Irish spirit of St Patricks Day with everyone you love and get the merrymaking started in style by choosing a bottle of personalised whisky, featuring the name of your dear one, and even your own personal message. Or celebrate with a personalised bottle of wine, bubbly or vodka.

If they prefer a non-alcoholic beverage, how about an Irish Flag mug, decorated with their name and beverage choice? Have a tree planted for them in Northern Ireland by Tree Appeal, or if you fancy a quick getaway to the land of the leprechauns to celebrate the occasion, there are masses of options on offer.

Golf and spa lovers can rejuvenate on a Temple Spa & Golf break in Ireland’s beautiful County Westmeath… Adrenaline junkies can experience a pure adrenaline rush as they take to the skies in a helicopter or Microlight aircraft. Those with a need for speed will experience off-roading, quad bike style, as they race around a tough track or rugged Irish terrain of woodland.

Now you know a bit of the folklore surrounding St Patrick’s Day, and the types of gifts available, you’ll be sure to get off to a green and groovy start.
